Anesthesia Technician Salary

An anesthesia technician is a career path for those who like to work as a part of a team, want to work with technology and have no problem, or might even be excited by the idea of working in the operating room. You won’t be like other technicians who repair things or customize them; you’ll be working as an integral part of a team of surgeons. You’ll have to apply your knowledge quickly and go through various surgical procedures with your coworkers. It is a high intensity job that is in high demand and the anesthesia technician salary runs anywhere between $30,000 to $40,000 on average as you start out and can get up to around $50,000 dollars annually. If this sounds right to you can get the training required and start your career fairly easily, especially if you're passionate about the subject.

One thing that makes the anesthesia technician salary slightly lower than other medical professions is that the position has fewer educational requirements. With the strong demand for these technicians, more schools offer these programs as well, making it one of the most accessible medical careers out there. Most of these programs cover three different aspects of being an anesthesia technician including the lab work, the clinical studies around the procedures you’ll be doing. You'll also take part in lectures on both how to fulfill your duties and how to work with the technology required. There are various community colleges and universities offering these programs now and while many jobs only require you to get an associate’s degree in anesthesia related programs, you can also continue to get your bachelors in the medical field and have a better chance at getting the job, and a higher anesthesia technician salary.

Your responsibilities once you begin your career will include operating the devices that give anesthesia and numbing out the feeling of pain and discomfort that can occur in patients when they undergo medical attention. The job is very important and is highly regarded due to the sensitive nature of the work. If you don’t know what you're doing you could possibly kill the person or cause them to wake up during the surgery. You are not just a technician working with a machine, you’ll be working with people’s lives and it’s important that you pay attention to their vital signs and heart rate, just as the doctors and surgeons will be doing.

When you're not in the operating room, you’ll be required to assist in consulting patients, keeping records of your work, tech support on the anesthesia giving devices, and interviewing patients after the medical procedure to see if they're having any side effects from the anesthesia.

The Anesthesia technician salary can be annual or hourly. At the hourly rate, you'll typically get $12 to $16 dollars but when you have experience, usually more than 5 years, you can make up to $20 dollars an hour or over $40,000 a year. An Anesthesia technician is one of the easiest medical professions to get into but it’s also one of the most relevant and the one with the highest demand.
